Gerald Clayton Quintet

March 7 @ 7 and 9 p.m.

The four-time Grammy-nominated pianist and composer is bringing his quintet to Samueli Theater to highlight the group’s innovative approach to modern jazz. Clayton’s compositions are intricate and thought-provoking, blending harmonic complexity with a deep sense of groove. 7 and 9 p.m. March 7.

The acclaimed klezmer-rock band reimagines Jewish and American music with driving klezmer beats, bold Yiddish refrains, and a high-energy fusion of folk, jazz, Latin, rock and soul. Led by Leeav Sofer—named one of Jewish Journal’s “30 Under 30”—the Los Angeles–based ensemble is known for its electrifying performances and socially conscious edge. 3 p.m. March 8 at Irvine Barclay Theatre.

Jørgen Klubien at Disney and Pixar

Through Oct. 4

An exhibition of more than 50 original drawings and storyboards by Danish-born Jorgen Klubien, who contributed character animation to classics such as The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Mulan, A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc, Toy Story 2 and Cars (for which he also wrote the original story and screenplay). A rare look at an animator’s approach to character development, gesture and storytelling on paper. Through Oct. 4 at the Hilbert Museum.
