Maiya Sykes honed her skills vocal skills with Nina Simone and Betty Carter. She has performed with The Black Eyed Peas, Joss Stone, Michael Buble, Leona Lewis and Rita Ora, and was a backup singer for Macy Gray for over five years. Proceeds from this concert with Sykes' band Benefitting Music Education will be donated to the LagunaLive! outreach programs. 7 p.m. June 11 at [seven degrees] in Laguna Beach.
The City of Dana Point free Movies in the Park nights bring back the nostalgic feel of a drive-in movie, but without the car. Bring your own chairs and blankets. Seating starts at 6:30 pm and the movie kicks off around 8:00 pm or when the sun goes down. Refreshments are available for purchase. June 13 at Sunset Park.
This solo exhibition from Colombian-American artist America Martin features works in paper, canvas, and linen mediums, Martin’s recent works borrow inspiration from classical visual tropes such as bathers, reclined figures, and nudes.
