EDITORS' PICKS
We don't have the resources to write in-depth stories about everything. Our editors want to share a few more events each week that we think you should know about. These picks are chosen by them without input from the organizations listed.
'Murder on the Orient Express'
For audiences craving an old-fashioned mystery, this stage adaptation of Agatha Christie’s classic delivers the pleasures of live suspense theater: a confined setting, a memorable cast of suspects and the steady unraveling of a famously clever plot. It’s the kind of story that invites audiences to lean in, follow the clues and debate the ending long after the curtain call.
Remarkable Lives: An Evening with Rita Moreno, 'Aging with Rhythm and Style'
Rita Moreno, 94, is one of the few artists in history to earn an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Award. Guided by Stephen Galloway, Dean of Dodge College of Film and Media Arts at Chapman University, this conversation explores Moreno’s extraordinary life, her enduring impact on culture and representation, and how staying in rhythm—creatively, emotionally and socially—shapes aging well. 8 p.m. May 12 at the Beckman Center, Irvine.
Fullerton Jazz Orchestra with Clay Jenkins
A renowned trumpeter and educator, Clay Jenkins brings decades of experience performing with the Stan Kenton Orchestra, Buddy Rich, and Count Basie Orchestra. This is the kickoff concert for the 21st Annual Muck JazzFest, running every Thursday evening from through June 18. All performances will take place in The Muck’s outdoor amphitheater. Guests are encouraged to arrive early, bring a picnic, and enjoy an opening set from 6:45–7:15 p.m., with headlining performances beginning promptly at 7:30 p.m.
