We don't have the resources to write in-depth stories about everything.  Our editors want to share a few more events each week that we think you should know about.  These picks are chosen by them without input from the organizations listed. 

UCI Opera and UCI Symphony present Puccini's story about a 17th-century Tuscan convent where a noble-born nun harbors a devastating secret. Fully staged production presented in Italian with supertitles. 8 p.m. May 10 at Irvine Barclay Theatre.

The Bowers Museum opens its grounds to a daylong festival featuring performances by Mariachi Anacatlan, Relampago del Cielo and Los Cuates. This festival includes a special student art exhibition and plenty of family activities. 11 a.m.-3 p.m. May 4. Free.

This renowned jazz clarinetist and tenor saxophonist has recorded over 70 CDs as a soloist and close to 400 as a sideman. Peplowski has played with Charlie Byrd, Mel Torme, Rosemary Clooney, Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops, Hank Jones, Peggy Lee, Bill Charlap, Woody Allen, Benny Goodman and Madonna. 7:30 p.m. May 8 at Muckenthaler Cultural Center.
