Funny Bones: A Trombone Summit

Aug. 13 @ 6:30 p.m.

Jazz drummer, Matthew Elton Smith, has gathered together some of his favorite SoCal trombonists to celebrate the instrument and the people who play it. From the event description: "At its heart, Funny Bones is a celebration of mentorship, friendship, shared history, and the joy of making music together. The trombone has always possessed a uniquely human voice, capable of laughter, lyricism, power, and surprise."

Rosie Flores

Aug. 13 @ 7:30 p.m.

This influential American roots musician blends rockabilly, country, and punk into her signature "cowpunk" sound. Born in San Antonio, the celebrated singer, songwriter, and fiery lead guitarist became the first Latina to break into Billboard's country music chart. Known as the "Rockabilly Filly," her career spans over five decades. She was honored as an NEA National Heritage Fellow for her preservation of music history. 7:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Muckenthaler Cultural Center.

Relampago del Cielo 50th Anniversary Gala Concert

Aug. 15 @ 7:30 p.m.

A celebration of the company's journey from its founding in Santa Ana in 1975 to its current role as one of the region's most respected folklórico organizations. The theme, “Past, Present, and Future,” reflects the group's commitment to preserve and celebrate Mexican heritage. Vibrant costumes, dynamic choreography and traditional dance suites will represent the diverse cultural regions of Mexico. Grammy-winning musician Jimmy Cuéllar and his mariarchi are special musical guests. 7:30 p.m. August 15 at Musco Center for the Arts.
