Haitian Revolution: Art of the Haiti Global South

Curated by Jacquil Constant, filmmaker and founder of the Haiti International Film Festival, this exhibition of works by contemporary Haitian and Haitian American artists includes historical portraits of the ancestors of Haiti's Independence and the creolization of Haitian culture; Haitian Realist works depicting life in Haiti; Magic Realist visions of people living their everyday lives; and Constant’s own award-winning film, "Haiti Is A Nation of Artists," about the transformational art created after the devastating earthquake of 2010. Opens Sept. 25 at Cypress College Arts Gallery.

A Great Day in the Stoke, Surf Competition & Beach Festival

This event returns for its fourth annual celebration of global Black surf talent designed to promote connection, water safety and health and wellness. Watch world-class Black surfers compete, including five-time AGDITS champion Julian Williams, who made history as the first Black Hawaiian to compete in the World Surf League Challenger Series at the US Open of Surfing in July. Enjoy live music from We the Commas, join free surf lessons for kids, teens and adults, or relax at the brand new AGDITS Beer Garden. 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at Huntington Beach Pier.

The Market Place’s Grand Celebration

This free community event will debut a new gathering area and residences with tastings from local eateries, live entertainment, giveaways, and a ribbon cutting with community leaders. Savor delicious bites from new restaurants and beloved favorites making their return. The event includes live music, games and special giveaways. September 27 from 1:00-6:00pm at The Market Place, 2961 El Camino Real, Tustin.
