"To the Hands"
Pacific Chorale’s choral-theatrical film receives its world premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival. Filmed live at Segerstrom Center for the Arts and anchored by Caroline Shaw’s Pulitzer Prize-winning score, "To the Hands" blends music, movement and light into a powerful reflection on empathy and resilience as it examines displacement and homelessness . 5:45 p.m. Oct. 21 at Starlight Triangle Square, Costa Mesa.
Wordfest OC
Experience poetry, storytelling, writing workshops, panel discussions, music and dance as well as readings by distinguished authors. The second annual Wordfest Festival includes a public reading celebrating the 25th year of WALL Literary Journal, an award-winning campus publication. 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Oct. 23 at Saddleback College.
Jerusalem Quartet
Hailed for their passion, precision and warmth, this celebrated string quartet will perform pieces from their debut at Wigmore Hall 25 years ago—Haydn’s Sunrise, Janáček’s Kreutzer Sonata and Beethoven’s quartet in B-flat major (with Grosse Fuge finale, Op. 133). 8 pm. Oct. 23 at Irvine Barclay Theatre. Presented by the Philharmonic Society of Orange County.
